Peritoneal Dialysis or Home Dialysis
PD involves introducing dialysis fluid into the patient’s peritoneal cavity, using the peritoneum lining as a natural filter to clean your blood. The peritoneum is a thin membrane, which is located inside the abdomen. During PD, waste products in your blood and excess water are eliminated through diffusion and osmosis.

Baxter offers a wide range of specialty PD solutions that accommodates varying PD patient’s needs, including nutrition, optimizing fluid balance, and helping to preserve a healthy peritoneal membrane. They are:
- DIANEAL is a glucose-based standard PD solution. It is a safe and effective dialysis solution used for more than 20 years by numerous patients all over the world.
- EXTRANEAL is designed for long dwells and results in improved ultra filtration (removal of fluid) and clearance. This solution is suitable for diabetic patients as it is not a glucose-based solution.
- NUTRINEAL addresses the patient’s nutritional needs by replacing amino acids (protein) loss during dialysis. This solution is especially appropriate for patients who are at risk from malnutrition from eating and/or swallowing difficulties.
- PHYSIONEAL is a bicarbonate-buffered PD solution containing an improved formulation that helps to maintain a healthy peritoneal membrane. It is also more biocompatible with our body.
